On the Menu

I am going to do something that has been done before.
But, not by me.

                                                 ***

I am excited to start a new 'series' that encompasses two of my favorite things.
Food.
food.
food.
food.

Oh, and fashion, I guess.
I got sidetracked.

I will be creating posts that pair a new recipe I have tried with an outfit specifically assembled to compliment the dish.

Now, I do plan on posting recipes that worked out for the better...but I cannot promise that I won't pass on my own personal {kitchen disaster} here and there. Laughing is healthy.

Stay tuned!

Here's a taste into what the first post will entail...

And, I used to think the 80s were fashion-less.

Now, Fashion Post...Later, Cookies.

It's Autumn! And, not just on the calendar, but outside too.

Goodness, do we need to list off all the reasons this is such a treasured time of the year?
A.K.A. it would need more than just this post ;)

When to Keep Moving

As you saw, I was sick over Labor Day weekend. Not too bad, just a nasty sinus infection, but enough to keep me from running.

So, thinking I was all good to go, and feeling a bit plump, I went out for a run on Monday.

I went in the heat of the day, not so smart, and mixed with healing from the congestion I was a running mess.

I walked the first mile (an actual smart decision on my part, I'll take it!) and then began my run.

shutupandrun.net
I was so frustrated because my pace was slow and I kept having to take walking breaks. It is unnerving to have completed a half-marathon at a pace you thought your body was not capable of to then not be able to finish 3 miles without stopping.

I was feeling angry and prideful and anxious. I kept thinking, how in the world am I going to run 13.1 miles in a month, let alone beat my old PR. Well, I threw that out the window, but for good reason. Yes, I will run/jog those miles to the best of my ability, but Jake and I made a pact to treat this as a fun run. We will run at an easy pace and just enjoy the whole experience, plus it's his first one! I can worry about my time at another race in the fall :)

Anyways...

After such a rough day on Monday, I got back out on Tuesday when the weather was beyond ideal. I was still feeling slower than I thought I should be and so I ran my first mile WAY too fast and was already somewhat fatigued (I had 6 miles set to complete). So, I made myself slow down and not stop. That's right, after those first 2 iffy miles, I was not allowing myself to take any walking breaks, unless for water.

And, that's just what I did. I resumed my normal "longer run" pace of 9:15 and it felt good. It also burned in my chest and I almost took that as needing to stop, but I knew better. I knew I could do this, I knew I had control over my breathing (as loud as it might be), and I knew I would complete my goal.

I did not stop until I reach 5.5 miles (I had gotten over-zealous and ran the last mile sub-9/min.) so I was a little winded, but I felt good. I finished out 6.2 (10k) miles and kept it at my goal pace. I have not felt proud of pushing myself like that in a long time.

This is one of those moments, when it is good to push through. This is one of those moments when you need to mentally change your attitude and know this is possible.

I will finish that half-marathon, dang it.

Allison's Angle for Mosaic C.S. week 1

This week we are going to dive fashion first into fall!

Although the temperatures cannot seem to make up their mind, here at Mosaic we are already starting to celebrate autumn. Here we have a beautiful and soft mix of some basic fall color schemes, while the patterns on the various garments bring a unique spin to a classic elegance.

This look contains…

  • A teal textured Blush blazer, size small and runs for $10.
  • Layered under the jacket we have a vintage Pykettes blouse. The deep chocolate brown and floral pattern sits charmingly against the light blue, complimenting any skin tone and hair color. This garment is retailing at Mosaic for $13.
  • Last, but not least the sleeveless, caramel dress under all of this is a Starina piece, size small and priced at $11.

Paired with this look are some NEW Dr. Marten’s, size 5 and selling for a cool $85 and a copper gem stone and stud charm necklace.

Stop in to check out these pieces as well as countless other fabulous finds, see you soon at Mosaic!

Hot Summer Styles: Resort and Boho Chic Inspirations

Who wears pants when it's close to 100 degrees outside? Well, okay, there are some exceptions, but basically I stick to dresses and skirt for this kind of heat- everything else just seems too confining.

The first look is a Blue Sky tie-dye sundresse with a simple XXI or Rue pulled apart rose scarf and a winged necklace all paired with a brown hobo tote.

The second look is an 80s crochet floral halter crop top paired with an early 90s faux silk paisley tea-length skirt, some thick beads, an ornamental pendant, and a gorgeous Mary Frances bag.

The last three looks are a silly little cutesy "resort" look. I was in the mood for vacation when I dressed her ;) It is a no label powder blue peasant blouse paired with a J. Crew floral mini,  a hand-made beaded necklace and blue patent pumps (but could totally be paired with some espadrilles or gladiators as well).

Enjoy!

Florals Upon Florals...and Some More Florals on Top

For this outfit post I tried something that I am not sure if it works yet or not, but why have limitations! I love florals, and my belief is that they will never go "out." Just like pearls, good denim, and a LBD- florals are classic. So, I went a little nuts. I piled floral crops under a floral mini all topped off with a knotted back textured floral tank. I accessorized with an emerald stone (vintage) and a similar colored Farm Hat brand cap.

Enjoy!

All items can, of course, be found at Mosaic.

PS: running post coming later today- it's a good one, I think, so check back ;) If anything, it will make you laugh.

Fashion Fun-day Sunday

Ah, I apologize for the title of this post right away, not my best work.

But, what I do think you'll like are these two outfits and straw sandals that we have in the shop right now. They are perfectly "it's too hot outside but darn it I still want to look cute."

Sandals are vintage straw-made with lace up strings. Red blouse is a NY&Co. cropped button-up blouse tied at the bottom. Skirt is Jarama and the tube-like-top is a threaded multi-colored scarf wrapped double and knotted in the back. Enjoy!

What's New: In Photographs

At Mosaic:

Our 1 year anniversary in 2 days:

TEXAS:

Graduation, finally:

Gaining weight...oh well, it was because this tastes so dang good:

Training for my first HALF!: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/312925094- my last long run before Sunday's race :)

So...What does all this mean? It means I am sorry for being absent for A MONTH. Geez. That is pretty bad. I was running around trying to remember my name while training and graduating and flying on an airplane, but I have missed posting and am excited to get back into it! The race I am running is the Cleveland (Rite Aid) Marathon/Half Marathon, which my brother and husband will be cheering for me at with doughnuts in hand (their quote). I hope you have been enjoying this dazzling weather, I promise I will see you soon, xoxo.
